Horse Painting Technique WIP
Hello all
I've decided to attempt a different technique for painting horses - this one is from the Polish Lancers of the Imperial Guard. So far so good - this technique has to do with thinned paint an an airbrush. I didn't think it would work on a 15mm figure, but I tried it, and it turned out not-so-bad (so far). One surprising thing is that it is incredibly fast to paint them this way.

Thanks, guys. I thought that an airbrush would leave way too wide of a swath to be useful on a 15mm figure, but for a horse, not that bad. Thanks for looking, and I'll post more pics as the figure nears completion.
Do you use a very fine tip? I have a couple of Paasche models, both single and double action. Pain to clean but decent. Have been meaning to have a go with this. My only excuse is really wanting a better airbrush.
I have an old article from Historical Gaming Magazine that mwntions blocking in colors such as pants,jackets, backpacks, etc. 100 figures block painted larger areas in about an hour. Something to consider for mass painting?
My airbrush is a double action Iwatta Eclipse, and I wasn't sure what would happen if I tried it with a 15mm figure. The idea I had in mind is to make smooth color transitions from lighter to darker tones (i.e. around the sock area), which can be done with an airbrush better than with a regular brush, even with thinned paint. I'm working on getting the paint spray so localized that I could do large highlights for the muscles of the horses - we'll see how that goes.
